The country runs in long, low layers — red-earth plains in the foreground, eucalyptus scrub holding the middle distance, the dark shapes of mesas pinning the far edge. Above all of it, sky takes up the most room: deep cobalt at the top of the frame, lightening as it meets the land. The composition is mostly horizon, mostly air, and the place earns the panoramic shape of the picture.

What the photograph holds is the scale. A view that doesn't argue for attention — it simply keeps going, ridge after ridge, until the eye gives up trying to find an end.
