A cloudless sky, soft hues across the upper frame, and the small attentions of the garden — leaves, branches at the edges — that the temple has gathered around itself for centuries. What the photograph holds is the doubling — temple above the waterline, temple below — and the kind of stillness that lets the eye sit. Less a postcard view than a held breath.
